I used to portray the character brother william (lower case is intentional). You may have seen me at a renaissance festival or other charity function. I garbed in a cassock, cowl and hood as a brother of the cloth. I usually kept a staff at my side that hid a carving knife and a punch. I carved flowers and hedgehogs, which I gave to the patrons. I told stories and entertained. I acceptepted donations for the flowers. A list of my beneficiaries can be found here.

The carving of flowers began in the early 80's when a campfire needed to be started on a very cold and wet day. Yes, it began as an aside to what the immediate need was, as most important things in our lives do. I have been carving flowers since then. That is brother william in a nut shell.
